Search engine optimization is an important asset to your online success, but implementing a strong SEO strategy is not always easy. There are plenty of tactics you can implement, but they’re not all the same. Some tactics are easier to implement than others. Some produce quicker results than others. And some require constant updating. Because SEO is so finicky, many people don’t think that it’s a strategy they can implement themselves, so they run out and hire an SEO company to handle this marketing tactic for them.
Thankfully, there are practical SEO tactics out there that anyone can implement without the help of an expensive SEO company. So before you run out and retain an SEO expert, try the following six practical ways to improve your SEO.
1. Add keywords to your web content.
In order for a search engine to rank your site, they crawl through your website in search of keywords. They then use these keywords to determine when and where to have your site rank on the search engine results page.
When your website is full of relevant keywords, it boosts your SEO significantly. Use a keyword tool to help you determine which keywords are the best options for your web content, and then rewrite your content to include the words naturally. This is one of the most practical things you can do to improve your overall SEO.
2. Add titles and descriptions to multimedia files.
If you have multimedia files on your website, whether images, audio or video, be sure to add titles and descriptions to all of them, and be sure these titles and descriptions contain keywords. Search engines can crawl through the title and descriptions of these files, and they’ll use the keywords they find to better rank your site.
3. Start a blog.
Blogging is an easy tactic to implement in order to boost your SEO. Search engines don’t just crawl your site one time and then move on. In fact, search engines will crawl through your site often in search of new keywords. If the search engines notice that your keywords have changed, they’ll continue to come back regularly. If your keywords haven’t changed, they’ll stop coming back as frequently. In order to improve your SEO, you want the search engines to come back regularly, and a blog is a great way to do this.
Since changing out your website copy is not always practical, a blog allows you to constantly make changes to keep the search engines coming back. With a blog, you can touch on a variety of different topics and use a variety of different keywords associated with your business, and if you attach your blog to your website, your SEO will greatly improve.
4. Be a guest blogger.
Receiving valuable backlinks to your website is another way to improve your SEO, but you can’t always control what websites are going to link back to your site. However, if you become a guest blogger on valuable websites, you can add a link back to your site on your guest post and increase your backlinks and improve your SEO this way. This is more practical than hoping that another site links back to yours.
5. Use social media.
Getting backlinks to your site and increasing traffic improves SEO, so use social media to help you do just that. Make sure that you are posting regularly to your social media accounts and adding links back to your blog posts or other relevant website information. This will create a backlink for your site, and it will also help to drive traffic to your site when people click on the link.
6. Transcribe audio and video files.
You already know that search engines can’t crawl through multimedia files, so any keywords on those files (aside from those in the title or description) do not help your SEO. However, if you were to invest in audio and video transcription and place those transcriptions directly on your website, you would improve your SEO. With a transcription, you are giving the search engines keyword-rich content to crawl through and use to better rank your site and improve your SEO.
