As a smart entrepreneur, you know that social media is a great marketing asset, and since it’s free to join and use, it’s one of the best marketing tactics out there for businesses with a limited budget. But while social media can help spread the word about your company, products and services, it can also be exhausting trying to manage and update regularly.
Thankfully, there are plenty of tools, tips and tricks you can use to combat the social media fatigue and keep your social presence thriving. The following are five social media tips for entrepreneurs.
1. Only join necessary social networks
It seems as if every day there is a new social media site coming out, but that doesn’t mean you have to join it. In order to combat social media fatigue, it’s a good idea to start slow and only join the social networks that make the most sense for your business. Think about your company, products, services and your target audience, and decide which social networks you should join based on your offerings and where you’ll likely find your audience. Staring with a Facebook and Twitter account is typically the smartest move, as these tend to be the most popular networks for businesses. Once you get your feet wet and can handle managing those social networks, you can decide if your company should move on to an Instagram, Pinterest, or other various social accounts.
2. Hire an intern
An intern can be a wonderful thing for your business. First, most interns are looking for the experience or are forced to hold an internship in order to graduate, which means that they will work for free. Second, since most interns are college-aged, they typically know a great deal about social media, which can help you pass off your social responsibilities to someone in the know and willing to do the work. Obviously, you want to find an intern that has the skill to manage the accounts you want to use, but you’ll also want to choose an intern who can help set you up with other useful social networks to help market your company.
3. Make automation your friend
Most people don’t realize that you don’t always have to produce a live tweet or post in order to have a social media presence. There are plenty of tools that allow you to automate your posts, such as Social Oomph or Post Planner. These tools allow you to schedule your tweets or posts in advance, which means you can spend less time being active on social media while keeping a presence. Keep in mind, though, that while automation can free you up from spending hours on social media sites, it’s still important that you respond to inquiries and comments in real time.
4. Invest in a social media management tool
Bouncing from social media account to social media account will surely make you tired, but you don’t have to do that. There are plenty of social media management tools, such as Sprout Social or Hootsuite, that allow you to manage all of your social accounts from one location. You can see your news feeds, direct messages, sent posts and even trending topics. Plus, you can usually schedule your own posts from these tools too, providing you with a one-stop shop for all your social needs.
5. Utilize notifications
Most social media accounts allow you to receive notifications when a comment is made, a message is received or someone posts on your wall or feed. It’s very important that you enable notifications for all of your social accounts. This way, you will always be notified when your social networks need your attention.
