When I first began using Google Adsense, way back in 2003 or so, I loved the program. I was earning as much as $1,500 a month on one website. With the explosion of blogging and the market getting more and more saturated, I have seen my Adsense profits fall, drastically.
I still place Adsense around my blogs, I tend to play with the ads and placement to find my own sweet spots, but for the most part, it’s depressing to see what Adsense has come to. And, frankly, I get tired of keeping up with the ever-changing policies of Google. I am thankful for the traffic I get from Google Search, but that’s not enough for me to sale my soul for Adsense placement.
What I have found, instead, is partnering with good merchants and affiliate programs is much better. You know what you’re getting – you know what you are linking to and you have control over what your readers see.
When I sign up for an affiliate program, I always make sure to sign up for their newsletter and to receive any alerts of promotions they may be running. When I receive those newsletters, it’s almost like Christmas in my inbox. Who doesn’t love ready-made content? Most of the time, they include banners and text links that I can copy and paste right into an article.
Just this morning, I woke up to find a new promotion from 1800flowers.com announcing a special promotion they are running this weekend with a fall theme.
Content, inspiration for content, graphics, promo code and links – all in one tidy email, waiting for me to get creative and share. How cool is that?
What is your opinion of Adsense? What is your opinion or experience with affiliate marketing?
